Bovy Update 1.11 is available

5/14/2020

Picture

We've just released an update to Bovy.  Not as much new as usual, but a couple things :
  • The display of Averages is improved, adding counts along with the averages. For example, "What is the average milk in each pen ?" now shows counts as well as averages.
  • We also got rid of some unnecessary decimal points.
  • Thanks to the user who pointed out that when the cow IDs and barn names overlap, clicking the list might show the wrong cow (ID instead of barn name).  This is fixed, sorry about that.
  • We never claimed that Bovy has enough data to do serious analysis, but over the  last month we added some "decision tools"  - You can ask Bovy to flip a coin for you, or shake some dice to help you decide something. (Yeah, we were bored ).
  • And as always, various small things that make Bovy smarter.

So if your device is not set up to automatically update, be sure to go to the App Store for IOS, or Google Play for Android, and get this new update.

And thanks for using Bovy ! Feel free to contact us any time with your ideas on how to make Bovy more useful for you !

And Please Stay Safe !

Bovy Version 1.10 is available !

4/11/2020

We've just released an update to Bovy with a few new things :
  • A new Graph feature so you can make a simple graph of the test day items - MILK, SCC, Percent Fat etc.  Click here to see more information on that.
  • For the DHIs that support it, we added some new fields, Sire Net merit, Dam Net Merit, and Twin Code. These are on the cowcard page, and you can ask for them on lists.  For example
"Which cows have the highest sire net merit ?"
Note that this is new, and the values may not yet be available until your next test day is loaded into Bovy.
  • The Herd List can now be sorted by next action date, not just ID or barn name, so you can see events that are upcoming. (We are open to ideas from all of you on how to make this better).
  • We made a minor improvement to how the cowcard first page looks, highlighting things that have occurred, and using an empty circle for events that haven't happened yet.
  • We fixed the gestation length for our goat friends.
  • And as always, various small things that make Bovy smarter.
So if your device is not set up to automatically update, be sure to go to the App Store for IOS, or Google Play for Android, and get this new update.

How to make a graph

4/11/2020

As of Bovy version 1.10, released April 10, you can now see some simple graphs of test day information.

Picture
There are a couple ways to do this.  You can just say or type "Graph" then the field you want to graph - for example
    graph SCC
Or you can click the new graph button on the Ask Bovy page and you'll see a pick list of the test day items you can graph :

So it's pretty easy.
Understand that Bovy only has a "snapshot" of your latest test day, it doesn't have all the test days for a cow.  So the graph shows all the cows, with the value (Milk, Percent Fat, MUN etc) plotted against the days in milk.  So while this feature might not have a great amount of management value, it is interesting to try it.

We welcome your ideas !

3/12/2020

We keep adding smarts and features to Bovy, but the best source for those ideas is from our customers who make the most use of Bovy.  If you every come across something new you wish Bovy could do, we'd love to hear from you.
You can pass the idea on to your DHI representative, or leave feedback from the app itself by clicking the DHI icon in the lower right corner.  Or just shoot us an email at support@nextcow.com.
We'd love to hear your ideas.

By the way, if you want Bovy to tell you the weather, or the time, or even a joke - have you tried asking her ? :)

How to sort your lists

2/13/2020

Note: This requires the latest version 1.9, released February 7th.  If sorting doesn't work, and Bovy says "I don't understand",  you need to update your app

Like everything with Bovy, sorting is pretty easy.  If you don't ask Bovy to sort, the answers will be sorted by either barn name or ID, depending on whether you have barn names turned on.
Lets say you want to find your oldest heifers, and when they're due.
You can ask or type something like
Show the age and due dates for heifers, sorted down by age
You'll get something like this :

Picture
So the oldest heifers are at the top of this list, which is what you asked for - "down by age".

You can sort by anything.  For a cows due list, you could ask or type :
Which cows are due in the next two weeks, sort by due date ?
And you'll see the cows due soonest at the top.

Picture

So it's really easy to sort the answers if you want.  And Bovy is pretty good at understanding sorts - you can say "by", or "sort by", or "sorted by", or "downby", yada yada - all that works.

And of course you can sort by anything - dates, eartags, milk, scc, anything.

Bovy Version 1.9 is out !

2/9/2020

Picture
We're listening to your requests and we've just released another update to make Bovy even better.
Sorting  -   Bovy can now sort her answers.   Try asking :
"Which cows are due next month sorted by due date?"

You can also use "down by" to reverse the order.   And anything can be sorted - eartags,  EIDs, dates, milk, etc.

Third Column
We've added a third column on all the lists, to show a little more info.

Finally, as always, we fixed a few things, and taught Bovy a few more words. Bovy is always getting smarter.  Hopefully not too smart.

So if your device settings don't automatically update your app, click over to your App Store (or Play Store for Android) and update to this latest version.

What do those red circles mean ?

1/9/2020

Those are notifications.
The red circle on the barn icon means a herd has been updated (either your herd, or the weekly demo herd update).
The red circle on the newspaper means there is a new blog post, like the one you are reading now.

"How Many" vs "Which"

1/7/2020

When you ask a "how many" question - like
How many heifers will calve this week ?
Bovy answers with the count.
But it also shows a button you can press to show the list of those cows.
For example :

When you click that button you see the list :

If you would have asked
Which heifers will calve this week ?
It would show the list right away.

12/17/2019

Bovy version 1.7 has now been released on December 18.
We've added a "Quick Herdlist" button on the main screen so you can see a list of all your cows.
There's an "edit" button on the herdlist page that lets you limit the list to cow, heifers, and pregnant or open animals.
We've also moved the Settings option from the main screen to the toolbar on the top.
Finally, we added Search boxes to both the normal lists, and the Quick Herdlist, so you can quickly enter a cow ID.
